Senior Pairs Skating – Short Program

Aliona SAVCHENKO/Robin SZOLKOWY SAS

Costume: she: black pants and top/ he: black pants and shirt

Music: "Souvenir"

they start out with triple toes (which must have been downgraded as the protocols read double); crossovers into a clean double twist followed by a throw triple salchow; landed deep in the knee; they continue with a well executed lift and crossovers into their side by side spins; many positions and change of foot; a nice step sequence is up next before they do a good death spiral and finish with their pairs combination spin;

they seemed a little tense at times; both have soft knees; a clean program; nice to watch; very fluid;

well balanced choreography; they are a little shy on transitions especially in the beginning; too many crossovers with arm movements;

Marks: TES : 31.36
PCS : 28.36
TSS : 59.72
Rank: 1

Mari-Doris VARTMANN/Florian JUST NRW

Costume: she: red dress/ he: black pants and shirt

they start out with their triple toes at which he falls and go into their double twist; troubles with the catching and landing; she falls on the throw triple salchow which is up next; their lift is nice, then their side by side spin get out of sync; a well executed step sequence follows and leads into a beautiful death spiral before they finish with their pairs combination spin;

they are a beautiful couple to watch; need to work on the elements; the program as a whole is nice; well balanced choreography; transitions were missing during the first half of the program;

Marks: TES : 23.42

PCS : 18.48

TSS : 40.90

Rank: 4

Eva-Maria FITZE/Rico REX BAY/SAS

Costume: she: black top and skirt with white stripes/ he: black pants and shirt with white

stripes

Music: "Mission Impossible"

after their opening moves the go into their triple toes; he falls; the double twist follows before they do a clean throw triple salchow; the lift is up next and leads into the death spiral; her skirt starts to get loose; she takes it off; they continue with their pairs combination spin; transitions into an out of sync side by side spin and out of that they go right into their final element, the step sequence; they start to loose sync towards the end;

nicely done program; elements finally get secure; lifts don’t look laboured anymore; fluid program;

nice transitions; best program choreography wise;

Marks: TES : 23.96
PCS : 19.80
TSS : 42.76
Rank: 3

Rebecca HANDKE/Daniel WENDE NRW

Costume: she: red dress/ he: black pants and shirt

Music: "Amelie"

like the other couples they start out with their triple toes; this time it’s her who falls; a nice double twist follows and leads into the throw triple loop; she almost falls but catches herself and manages to keep her blades in the ice; a nice side by side spin is up next before they go into their lift; they continue with a clean step sequence and a nice death spiral to finish the program with their pairs combination spin;

fluid and secure program; soft knees and nice skating skills; again transitions are missing in the beginning; technical content is there; need to work on interpretation;

Marks: TES : 25.76

PCS : 21.68

TSS : 46.44

Rank: 2

General Comment:

Most of the couple are shy on transitions especially in the beginning and do mostly crossovers to connect the elements. There is not much originality and a lot of the choreographies looked alike even with only four couples.

Senior Ladies – Long Program

First Warm-Up Group

Anne SACHTLER kicked off the Ladies Free Program and was followed by Kristina GEIßLER and Cornelia BEYERMANN, who trains with Ilona Schindler. All of them did nothing to impress. They did not have all of the triples and while they tried them, most of them finished on the ice. There were some nice double though as well as nice spiral sequences.

Cindy CARQUILLAT, the invited skater from Switzerland, was the last of the group and the only one to impress. She two footed some of her jumps but did not fall once, had nice elements as well as nice flow. Her spins were fast, had interesting positions and her choreography was very well balanced. The transitions were good and she realy felt the music which had her keep up the energy until the very end. There is definitely potential and she manged to pull up from 12th to place 10th overall.

Second Warm-Up Group

Two girls from Berlin were in that group, so they were loudly supported by the audience. First up was Brigitte BLICKLING from Bavaria. She looked a little like Susanna Pökyio but unfortunately she didn’t have her skating skills.

Next was Anita SCHULZ, one of the Berlin girls. If she gets her jumps, she’s definitely a Top 5 candidate! Her triples are not quite there and she only managed one clean triple, all of her other jumps were doubles. Her spiral sequence was good with nice leg lines as well as extension and her choreography was one of the best. She kept going despite getting tired, didn’t let go of the expression and interpreted the program from the beginning towards the end. She skated carefully, lost her flow towards the end but it was cute and the expression definitely made up for it.

Kristin WIECZOREK followed and while she did have a very nice spiral sequence as well as nice jumps her program wasn’t nearly as catching as the one before.

Laura LINDE, the other Berlin girl, followed but she also couldn’t match the performance of Anita Schulz. Her program was done to "Schindler’s List". It was very soft, had nice transitions and jumps but it was also monotonous.

Denise ZIMMERMANN closed the second warm up group and was kind of disappointing. She has lost the form she had two years ago and while she managed some triples, she also did some doubles and singled her last jump. A mistake during her final spin had her loose all of her spirit and exhaustion took over. She clearly was disappointed and although she hang on to her expression, she needs more transitions. There are too many arm movements with crossovers and she has to gain confidence again.

Third Warm-Up Group

Anette DYTRT BAY

Current Rank: 2 Points: 46.72

Costume: turquoise dress

Music: Spartacus

She opened her first triple lutz but caught herself to manage a clean triple salchow-double toe combination. Transitions lead into a triple flip at which she fell but a nice spin followed before she again fell on her triple loop. She continued with transitions into a triple toe and another nice spin as well as a clean spiral sequence. Two more clean jumps – a triple salchow and a double axel-double toe combination followed before she finished with a well executed step sequence and a final spin.

Her program is nice, has good flow and good choreography but she was tense until the second fall. She tried too hard and didn’t let go.

Her interpretation is good and although her smile is always a little fake, her movements fit the music and she really feels it.

Constanze PAULINUS THR

Current Rank: 4 Points: 39.54

Costume: black dress with orange and red fabric at the top and wrist

She didn’t have a good day and opened with a nice double axel, but fell on her next jump a triple salchow. Only a double salchow-double toe combination followed and was continued with a nice spin before she did another double-double combination. A second spin lead into a double loop and another fall occurred at her lutz. After another spin she did a very nice spiral sequence with interesting positions as well as a clean step sequence but then again she fell on her final triple salchow before she finished with her last spin.

There wasn’t much in the program and while her elements apart from the jumps were nicely executed, the originality was missing. She had nice flow throughout the program but there was not much expression.

Christiane BERGER BW

Current Rank: 1 Points: 49.20

Costume: a nice light blue/turquoise dress

She as well reminded me of Susanna Pökyiö and while her skating skills were more like it, they were not up to their best today.

After her opening moves she started out with a nice triple loop and triple toe-double to combination but then fell on her single axel. She doubled her lutz before going into a nice, fast spin and transitions which lead into her not too difficult step sequence. Another fall followed at her salchow and she stepped out of her triple flip which was also downgraded to a double. She continued with a single salchow before she did another very nice spin as well as a well executed spiral sequence and a fourth and final spin.

She has nice flow and very beautiful movements. Her skating skills are good and she has deep knees which make her look very soft on the ice. There is definitely potential as she already feels the music but she has to get some more music interpretating transitions.

Marietheres HUONKER BW

Current Rank: 3 Points: 42.34

Costume: pink dress

Music: "Romeo and Juliet" by Prokoview

She opened her first triple flip and did only a single but followed with a nice triple lutz-double toe combination. Transitions lead into her toe which was again singled before she did a spin with very nice positions. She continued with her double axel which was two-footed and her spiral sequence out of which she did a clean triple toe-double toe combination. Another spin lead into another abandoned single flip and she did only a double loop-double loop combination before she finished with her step sequences as well as two spins.

She has a weird jump technique leaning way backwards while entering her jumps and her skating skills were not among the best but her program was well balanced apart from the two spins following each other at the end. She needs more transitions especially at the beginning and more feel of the music.

Sarah-Michelle VILLANUEVA NRW

Current Rank: 4 Points: 38. 54

Costume: very simple but pretty salmon colored dress

Music: Rachmaninoff

Her opening moves lead into a clean triple toe-double toe-double toe combination but then she did only a single loop and fell on a downgraded double lutz. After some transitions she hung in to her triple salchow landing to manage to combine it with a double toe before she did a nice spin as well as step sequence. More transitions lead into her double axel, another spin and a very nice spiral sequence with amazing extension. A third spin was followed by a clean double toe-double toe combination but her triple flip was downgraded to a double but she finished with a nice combination spin.

She had a really nice beginning but lost steam towards the end. Her flow is nice, her leglines are beautiful which makes her a pretty skater to watch but her transitions were few at the end. She also couldn’t keep up with the music and wasn’t feeling it anymore because of her tiredness.

Marks: TES : 31.94

PCS : 38.56

TSS : 69.50

Total : 108.04

Free Program Rank: 4

Final Rank: 4

General Comment:

There were a lot of falls and the technical level wasn’t very high instead a lot of ladies have nice expression. There were quite a few original programs and some of the girls definitely have potential if they manage to get their jumps clean while they are also able to keep up the interpretation.
